Electronic Supplement to
Stochastic Strong Ground Motion Simulation of the Southern Aegean Sea Benioff Zone Intermediate-Depth Earthquakes

by Ch. Kkallas, C. B. Papazachos, B. N. Margaris, D. Boore, Ch. Ventouzi, and A. Skarlatoudis

This electronic supplement provides a sample input parameter file for program EXSIM_DMB, specifically formulated for the 7 Ocober 2004 event (M 5.5, h ∼ 130 km) which was examined in the main article and for two typical recording stations, one back-arc (MYKO) and one fore-arc (ZKR). We also provide the generic site amplification factors of Klimis et al. (2006), corresponding to the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) B site class, which is the site class of these two sample sites, that were used in this sample input file. Finally, we list the regression coefficients for in-slab events reported by Skarlatoudis et al. (2013), which were used in this study to determine the main attenuation model parameters for the employed stochastic simulations of intermediate-depth events.

EXSIM_DMB Sample Input File

In the following, we list the input parameter file for program EXSIM_DMB, which can be used for the 7 October 2004 event (M 5.5, h ∼ 130 km) and two recording stations (MYKO and ZKR).

Amplifications are provided without high-frequency attenuation (kappa) effects and are corrected for crustal amplification effects according to Boore et al. (2009). Notice that amplifications are the same for both stations listed in the parameter file (MYKO and ZKR), as both are bedrock stations. The values provided here correspond to file “BGR_N.txt.mod” listed in the parameter file.

Regression Coefficients for In-Slab Events

In Table S2, we list the regression coefficients for in-slab events by Skarlatoudis et al. (2013), which were used to determine the main attenuation model parameters for the employed stoshastic simulations (equation 5 in the main article).

The regression equation used is logYc32(RRref) + c41(1 − ARC) × H(hh0) + c42(1 − ARC) × H(h0h)f(h,R) + c51ARC × H(hh0) + c52ARC × H(h0h)f(h,R). Coefficients h0 and Rref have fixed values of −100 and 1 km, respectively, M and h are earthquake moment magnitude and depth, R is the hypocentral distance (in km), while ARC = 0 or 1 for back-arc and along-arc stations, respectively.
